An equity-based approach to supporting faculty and students in Western's writing requirements

Western Washington University believes the development of writing proficiency should be pursued systematically throughout students' course of study. To that end, the writing graduation requirement includes a lower division (GUR) component and an upper division (WP) component. Writing Instruction Support (WIS) supports faculty teaching and students taking these required writing courses.

If you'd like support in teaching writing at Western, welcome! Writing Instruction Support (WIS) through Western Libraries provides information about Western's graduation writing requirements: the GUR writing requirement and the upper division WP Writing Proficiency requirement.

WIS also provides Teaching Resources that promote an integrated approach to academic literacies (writing, reading, research) and an equity-based approach to teaching research-based writing. Cheers!
