Western Libraries' Northwest Collection features works by writers whose efforts have contributed significantly to the interpretation and understanding of the Pacific Northwest (including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and British Columbia).
This circulating collection of books and video emphasizes regional and local history; art; literature; business, labor, and industry; science and technology; agriculture and natural resources; politics, government, and law; environment and conservation; ethnicity and culture; geography; archaeology; and anthropology. The collection also features works by well-known Pacific Northwest authors, artists, and filmmakers.
The Northwest Collection is housed in the expansive Central Reading Room, a high-ceiling space accented by arched stained-glass windows that run the length of the second floor of the Wilson Library. Designed in the late 1920s by architects Charles H. Bebb and Carl F. Gould, the room serves as a special gathering space for research, special events, and exhibitions that advance the understanding of our region.
