Other Sources

Hundreds of historical newspapers are available on microfilm in Western Libraries. To locate them in the library catalog, enter either a specific title or a subject term / place name along with the term "newspaper." Limiting your results to newspapers in the left-hand column of the search results screen may also be helpful.

Additional historical papers can generally be borrowed on microfilm from other libraries if they are not available at WWU. The U.S. Newspaper Directory, a database of all extant newspapers published in what is now the United States, 1690-present, is the best place to search. View the holdings information in each title record to locate digital, microfilm, or print copies. Also try WorldCat, a catalog of all U.S. library holdings.
