Listen to Children: The Jack Prelutsky Antiquarian Poetry Collection Exhibit represents book selected from over 1,200 rare books donated by award-winning author and inaugural U.S. Children’s Poet Laureate Jack Prelutsky to the Children’s Poetry Collections at Western Libraries, the material in this exhibition spans two hundred and fifty years in the history of poetry for the young and young at heart. Topical themes include didactic poetry, Mother Goose, nature, nonsense verse for children and adults, imaginary voyages, illustration, and moveable books. The exhibit also looks at how poetry has been used to introduce children to history and current events.
An Imaginary Library: Children’s Books That Do Not (Yet) Exist was an exhibit of original art by 72 illustrators from 30 countries. The exhibit came to WWU from Chicago, having been staged already in Japan, Greece, and Iran. This was the last stop, and the only West Coast venue, before the exhibit returned to Germany. From the Artist's statement: "Cecilia's Garden is a story about grief and hope. It is in honor and tribute to all who serve our country, from the soldier who rises to the call to duty, to the family members who support that soldier, to the lone bicycler who exercises his freedom of speech with his bicycle and a single sign that says PEACE."
In Cecilia's Garden was on display in the Library Skybridge to coincide with the Children's Literature Conference, 2011.

Hello, Dear Enemy: Picture Books for Peace and Humanity is a traveling exhibit on loan from the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany and has been around the world. We were thrilled to host the exhibit and dismayed by its continued relevance. The exhibit is divided into four themes: Experiences of War, Destruction, and Displacement; Power Struggles and the Origin and Escalation of Violence; Prejudice, Ostracism, and Imagined Enemies; Utopias of Peace and Anti-War Books. Posters on display showcase provocative images and quotes from the books. Picture books are disarming – the profound simplicity of illustration and message can prompt complex conversations. Indeed, this exhibit is for all ages. The books of Hello, Dear Enemy! are divided into four thematic subgroups and appear to the right. Clicking on the title of the book will direct you to the library record page.
